Visual and performing arts play an important role in the education of all students in the Capistrano Unified School District. Recognized nationally for its outstanding music and arts program, the District aims to foster creativity, teach effective communication, and instill self-discipline and commitment through the arts. CUSD has been recognized with county, state, and national recognitions for the arts programs.
In 2003 and 2006, the Capistrano Unified School District was named one of the “Top 100 Communities for Music Education in America” by the American Music Conference.
Students in elementary Grades 4-5 receive “Block Music” which includes two-40 minute music lessons weekly in band, orchestra, general music or choir. Middle school students can take courses in drama, visual arts, choir, band, or orchestra. High school students have the opportunity to take courses in band, orchestra, visual arts, choir, drama, dance, photography, etc.
Saddleback College also offers numerous fee-based, high-quality arts programs during the summer and after school .
