INFO REGARDING MATH 7 ACC PLACEMENT TEST FOR INCOMING GRADE 6 STUDENTS - CURRENT CUSD GRADE 5 STUDENTS (updated 5/13/14)

This year’s Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test was administered in all Grade 5 classrooms on Thursday, May 8.  The Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test consisted of forty multiple choice questions and three “Explain Your Reasoning” questions.  All test questions were directly aligned to one or more of the Grade 6 Common Core math standards, along with a small number of questions addressing addition and subtraction of fractions.  Students had 45 minutes to answer the forty multiple choice questions, then 15 minutes to answer the three “Explain Your Reasoning” questions.

To qualify to enroll in Math 7 Accelerated in grade 6, students must score EITHER (1) 80% or higher on the multiple choice section of the test OR (2) 70% or higher on the multiple choice section of the test AND 70% or higher on the "Explain Your Reasoning" section of the test.

Students/Parents will be notified of a student's Grade 6 math course placement during middle school registration in August 2014.

All Grade 5 students who did not pass the Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test on May 8 will be placed in Math 6 to start the 2014-15 school year, however, during  middle school during registration, a child’s parent may sign up their child up to be given a re-take opportunity.  All re-take tests will be administered at each CUSD middle school during one pre-determined date during the first week of the school.  Students who pass the re-take opportunity will be transferred to Math 7 Accelerated as soon as possible.

Last year's Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test is available for download by clicking:

"Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test" administered to Capistrano USD Grade 5 students in May 2013.

This year's Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test, although similar in format to last year's version, had completely different questions aligned to the Common Core Grade 6 Math Standards, along with a few questions addressing addition and subtraction of fractions, which are taught in Grade 5.
