Info Regarding Math 7 Acc Placement Test For Incoming Grade 6 Students – Current CUSD Grade 5 Students (updated 6/4/18)

This year’s Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test will be administered in all Grade 5 classrooms to current CUSD students on Thursday, May 3, 2018.  The Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test consists of forty multiple choice questions and three “Written Response” questions.  All test questions are directly aligned to one or more of the Grade 6 Common Core math standards; a small number of questions addressing addition and subtraction of fractions are also included.  Students will have 45 minutes to answer the forty multiple choice questions, then 15 minutes to answer the three “Written Response” questions.

Approximately one-fourth of the 40 multiple choice questions will be Non-Traditional Selected Response (NTSR) questions for which there will be multiple correct answers for each of these types of questions.  The number of correct answers to be chosen for each NTSR question will be explained in the directions.  All correct answers must be chosen by the student for an NTSR question to be marked correct; no partial credit will be given for these types of questions.

To qualify to enroll in Math 7 Accelerated in Grade 6, students must score EITHER (1) 80% or higher on the multiple choice section of the test OR (2) 70% or higher on the multiple choice section of the test AND 70% or higher on the "Written Response" section of the test.

Students/Parents will be notified of a student's Grade 6 math course placement via email during the week of July 2-6, 2018.

All Grade 5 students who do not pass the Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test on May 3 or 4 will be placed in Math 6 to start the 2018-19 school year, however, a parent may sign up their child to be given a re-take opportunity.  All re-take tests will be administered on either July 26 at Capistrano Valley High School, 26301 Via Escolar, Mission Viejo or July 31 at the Capistrano USD office, 33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano.  Students who pass the re-take opportunity will be transferred to Math 7 Accelerated prior to the start of the school year.  A previously-administered Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test is available for download by clicking:

Sample "Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test"

This year's Math 7 Accelerated Placement Test will have completely different questions aligned to the Common Core Grade 6 Math Standards, along with a few questions addressing addition and subtraction of fractions, which are taught in Grade 5, so student performance on this sample test will not necessarily correlate to performance on this year's placement assessment.
